Carlos Eduardo Ramos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leonidas Arias, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Ramon Peralta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rigoberto Lozano in the 26th minute of play. Rigoberto Lozano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ramon Peralta having to interfere. The supporters of Buenaventura FC booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felipe Cedeño didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ramon Peralta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rodolfo Dias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rigoberto Lozano in the 41st minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Ramon Peralta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Albertinho Campidelis helped the player get up and apologised. Albertinho Campidelis hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Wiliam Peren made a kick off. In the 54th minute, Américo Oberto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 56th minute Rodolfo Dias shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ramon Peralta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
