But to his dismay, Cornel Ciocan quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Viorel Vanghele hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. 9 minutes into the match, Moldova's goalkeeper Ovidiu Vornic had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Karel Tkadlec. Karel Tkadlec received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Ovidiu Vornic came out and tried to block the shot, but Karel Tkadlec slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 9th minute. Cornel Ciocan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Karel Prokůpek read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. After some careless play in the Czech Republic defense, Cornel Ciocan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Karel Prokůpek. The Czech Republic fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Karel Prokůpek should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Max Klas in the 19th minute of play forced Moldova's goalkeeper Ovidiu Vornic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ovidiu Vornic took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Max Klas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Moldova getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Lilian Covali hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Czech Republic's Antonín Štícha got a free kick in the 26th minute. Karel Prokůpek showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ruslan Chiritã in the 27th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Cornel Ciocan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Moldova's supporters rose to their feet, but Cornel Ciocan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Karel Prokůpek breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Cornel Ciocan came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Moldova fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cornel Ciocan couldn't finish the play. When Max Klas came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Czech Republic fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Max Klas couldn't finish the play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.

The crowd rose to their feet as Cornel Ciocan kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Karel Prokůpek. That made the score 2-3 in the 51 minute of play. Max Klas struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Ovidiu Vornic didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Czech Republic. Cornel Ciocan took the ball and in the 59 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Karel Prokůpek. Karel Prokůpek dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. Czech Republic's Jan Prchal was substituted for Karel Tkadlec. Karel Prokůpek was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Ruslan Cociu. An unexpectedly hard shot by Radko Tesárek in the 68th minute of play forced Moldova's goalkeeper Ovidiu Vornic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Moldova's Ovidiu Vornic played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Radko Tesárek in the 69th minute of play. Czech Republic made a substitution. Miloš Bartůněk replaced Vlastimil Lysák. Moldova made a substitution. Sergiu Cãpraru replaced Lilian Covali. 77 minutes into the match, Radko Tesárek had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ovidiu Vornic. Moldova's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Radko Tesárek was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-4. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Czech Republic's goalkeeper Karel Prokůpek, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Karel Prokůpek was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Cornel Ciocan showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 4-5 in the 82 minute of play. 85 minutes into the match, Czech Republic's goal looked a bit too open when Cornel Ciocan came free, but Karel Prokůpek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 87th minute Cornel Ciocan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karel Prokůpek saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Emilian Platon hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Radko Tesárek in the 90th minute of play forced Moldova's goalkeeper Ovidiu Vornic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Karel Prokůpek showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cornel Ciocan, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. Ruslan Chiritã kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Pavel Kadeřábek managed to get in a good position for a shot. Czech Republic's supporters rose to their feet, but Pavel Kadeřábek was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ovidiu Vornic breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Moldova walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
