When João Rocha fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Portugal's protests and gave João Rocha a yellow card for diving instead. After 53 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Portugal! Portugal:s Pedro Coimbra showed great skill when he stopped Roano Cuello:s penalty. 5-0 came in the 55th minute when Roano Cuello all by himself managed to get straight through the defense and place the ball into the net to the right of Pedro Coimbra. Portugal's Ricardo Valente was substituted for Afonso Magalhães. Portugal made a substitution. Jorge Neto replaced Eusébio Panter. In the 60th minute Roano Cuello shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Coimbra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Frascuelo Alzedar made an important save on a dangerous shot by Simão Pires in the 96th minute. 97 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Martin Cascales came free, but Pedro Coimbra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Peru's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
