The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ramone Barrientos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. U21 Colombia's Donio Manojo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 21st minute of the match, managed to save U21 Colombia from getting a goal against them. Herminio Ortiz charged in rather forcefully in the 21st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Herminio Ortiz the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of U21 Uruguay booed when U21 Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Herminio Ortiz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fertus Redin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alejandro Guerra, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. In the 43rd minute of the match U21 Uruguay got a corner. U21 Colombia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Frasquito Abella ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a rather tough play, U21 Uruguay's Frasquito Abella got a free kick in the 44th minute. Ramone Barrientos charged in rather forcefully in the 48th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Donio Manojo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dale Bols in the 62nd minute of play. In the 65th minute Egoitz Calvon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donio Manojo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 66 minutes into the match, U21 Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Alejandro Guerra came free, but Fertus Redin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dale Bols in the 68th minute of play forced U21 Colombia's goalkeeper Donio Manojo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alejandro Guerra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Fertus Redin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. U21 Colombia made a substitution. Gaudencio Guio replaced Timoleon Jiménez. U21 Uruguay made a substitution. Diego Godín replaced Haimar Barrachina. Egoitz Calvon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Donio Manojo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 73rd minute of play. When Frasquito Abella came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the U21 Uruguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Frasquito Abella couldn't finish the play. If Diego Forlan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fertus Redin was a little too slow when Florian Puga got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 83rd minute. The score was now 2-2. In a very dangerous position, a player in U21 Colombia fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 88th minute. Penalty! In the 90th minute there was a penalty for U21 Uruguay. Frasquito Abella stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Donio Manojo. 3-2. Egoitz Calvon scored 4-2 in the 93rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Donio Manojo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Quentin Saldaña could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 99th minute of the match, but Fertus Redin made a huge save. Quentin Saldañas short, quick shot in the 99thth minute got Fertus Redin to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. U21 Colombia's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
