The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, U21 Romania's Gheorghe Hagi got a free kick in the 2nd minute. Drew Laing took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gheorghe Hagi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Leonard Postelnicescu kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. U21 Romania's Bogdan Oprița proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Romania from getting a goal against them. U21 Wales's Drew Laing played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gheorghe Hagi in the 14th minute of play. After having played for 17 minutes, Gheorghe Hagi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Romania's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gheorghe Hagi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. U21 Wales's Drew Laing played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Codruț Corbeanu in the 23rd minute of play. Drew Laing came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Romania's Gheorghe Hagi. But to his dismay, Gheorghe Hagi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Drew Laing took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Codruț Corbeanu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Codruț Corbeanu spun around in front of the goal 29 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of U21 Wales's goal. When U21 Romania's Codruț Corbeanu in the 30th minute got a chance for a shot 30th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 Wales's goalie prevented a goal. U21 Wales's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Bedwyr Creedan in the 34th minute. The audience was convinced that Codruț Corbeanu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Drew Laing was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Codruț Corbeanu in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. When U21 Romania's Codruț Corbeanu in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 Wales's goalie prevented a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Codruț Corbeanu in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Drew Laing saved U21 Wales from getting behind. U21 Romania were awarded a corner in the 43th minute after U21 Wales's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Codrin Valerian took the corner. After taking down the ball on U21 Romania's corner Codrin Valerian fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Drew Laing quite easily take care of the ball. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Codruț Corbeanu made a kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Gheorghe Hagi kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Drew Laing. That made the score 0-2 in the 53 minute of play. In the 76th minute Costel Neculuță shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Drew Laing saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 78 minutes, Bedwyr Creedan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Wales and the U21 Romania players grew even worse after the yellow card. The U21 Romania fans' excitement grew in the 84th match minute when U21 Romania's Vasile Bacanu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Bogdan Oprița showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Urien Case in the 86th minute of the match. A collision led to U21 Wales getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Urien Case hit a great ball. Drew Laing showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vasile Bacanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. The U21 Romania players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
