The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Reiko Klingenberg took the kick off in the first half of the match. Wolf-Rüdiger Anschütz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jørn Wøien in the 4th minute of play. Norway's Ole Natås played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reiko Klingenberg in the 6th minute of play. Rune Skavhaug could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 7th minute of the match, but Wolf-Rüdiger Anschütz made a huge save. 9 minutes into the match, Umberto Galeski notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Norway's Ole Natås. Ole Natås was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jørn Wøien got free with Wolf-Rüdiger Anschütz in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Umberto Galeski in the 13th minute of play forced Norway's goalkeeper Ole Natås to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wolf-Rüdiger Anschütz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jørn Wøien in the 16th minute of play. In the 17th minute of the match Norway got a corner. Germany's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Lars-Erik Gjengedal ran over to the corner to take the kick. Norway's Ole Natås played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Curt Nonnenbruch in the 22nd minute of play. Ole Natås showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Reiko Klingenberg in the 23rd minute of the match. 24 minutes into the match, Norway's goal looked a bit too open when Reiko Klingenberg came free, but Ole Natås reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ole Natås made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Otfried Streitenbürger in the 28th minute of play. In the 30th minute Reiko Klingenberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ole Natås saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wolf-Rüdiger Anschütz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jørn Wøien in the 35th minute of play. Ole Natås showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Reiko Klingenberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. 45 minutes into the match, Norway's goal looked a bit too open when Otfried Streitenbürger came free, but Ole Natås reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Timo Heller fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ole Natås having to interfere. Jørn Wøien sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wolf-Rüdiger Anschütz came out of the goal in the 88th minute to try and stop a shot by Norway's Jørn Wøien. But to his dismay, Jørn Wøien quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-3. Dirk-Justus Wilke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94th minute Timo Heller shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ole Natås saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Germany booed when Norway was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frode Nerli didn't get a good kick on the ball. Germany's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
