Reiner Bonilla took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Robi van Persie, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ekhi Tamaron stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Maldonado's shot from short distance in the 8th minute. 12 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Robi van Persie came free, but Reiner Bonilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Reiner Bonilla got control of the ball when Robi van Persie tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 15th minute Maxin Olloa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reiner Bonilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 16 minutes into the match, Colombia's goal looked a bit too open when Pepe Williams came free, but Ekhi Tamaron reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ekhi Tamaron made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pepe Williams in the 23rd minute of play. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Txanton Pabon didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pepe Williams in the 29th minute of play forced Colombia's goalkeeper Ekhi Tamaron to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Robi van Persie recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pepe Williams in the 35th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ekhi Tamaron saved Colombia from getting behind. Reiner Bonilla was out of position in the 37 minute of play, and Robi van Persie capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Robi van Persie really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. Ekhi Tamaron showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Maldonado in the 42nd minute of the match. A collision led to Colombia getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Maxin Olloa hit a great ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Maxin Olloa was the one to do the kick off. After 52 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Lucas Alfaro. When Costa Rica's Carlos Maldonado in the 54th minute got a chance for a shot 54th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Colombia's goalie prevented a goal. Carlos Maldonado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ekhi Tamaron having to interfere. Reiner Bonilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leonardo Penagos, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maxin Olloa in the 63rd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Reiner Bonilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hibai Archuleta in the 63rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Reiner Bonilla prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ekhi Tamaron had great luck who in the 66thth minute grab hold of the ball when Pepe Williams from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. If Txanton Pabon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Costa Rica made a substitution. Elias Saborio replaced Pepe Williams. Costa Rica made a substitution. Joaquin Rohrmoser replaced Lucas Alfaro. Costa Rica's Elvis Jara was substituted for Adalberto Alpizar. A collision led to Colombia getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Leonardo Penagos hit a great ball. In the 75th minute Costa Rica were awarded a corner. Elvis Jara went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Donald Campos got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Ekhi Tamaron quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Hibai Archuleta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Reiner Bonilla tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Colombia made a substitution. Merexildo Arnaez replaced Leonardo Penagos. If Txanton Pabon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Costa Rica's Reiner Bonilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maxin Olloa in the 83rd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Colombia's Maxin Olloa got a free kick in the 93rd minute. The audience was convinced that Elias Saborio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ekhi Tamaron was relentless in the 94th minute of the game. In the 94thth minute of the game Elias Saborio who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Colombia's Ekhi Tamaron was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Txanton Pabon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Reiner Bonilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maxin Olloa, who was totally free with the ball in the 98th minute. There was no doubt that Colombia were the better team. Colombia's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
