In the 5th minute of the match U21 Poland got a corner. U21 Romania's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Sylwester Kędzierski ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Sylwester Kędzierski almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Romania's Tiberiu Reznic did a great save. Witold Kicia blasted a shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tiberiu Reznic having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Petcu in the 9th minute of play forced U21 Poland's goalkeeper Ksawery Magdziarz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Andrzej Byske came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the U21 Poland fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Andrzej Byske couldn't finish the play. After 19 minutes, Marcin Czech mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Poland and the U21 Romania players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 20th minute David Petcu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ksawery Magdziarz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 29th minute Andrzej Byske shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tiberiu Reznic saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Costică Prodan in the 31st minute of play forced U21 Poland's goalkeeper Ksawery Magdziarz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ksawery Magdziarz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Petcu, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Witold Kicia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, U21 Romania's Costică Prodan got a free kick in the 44th minute.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. David Petcu was the one to do the kick off. Horaţiu Enciu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ksawery Magdziarz having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Witold Kicia in the 65th minute of play forced U21 Romania's goalkeeper Tiberiu Reznic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Witold Kicia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Tiberiu Reznic showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Witold Kicia in the 68th minute of the match. In the 75th minute of the match, Horaţiu Enciu got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ksawery Magdziarz was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Romania's goalkeeper Tiberiu Reznic, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 85 played minutes U21 Romania got a freekick which was hit by Aurel Dincă. U21 Romania made a substitution. Virgil Şendrea replaced David Petcu. A collision led to U21 Romania getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Aurel Dincă hit a great ball. Ksawery Magdziarz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Virgil Şendrea, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Romania's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because U21 Poland had won, even though U21 Romania had held more of the ball.
