Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Geirröður Snæbjörnsson started the match with the kick off. After a rather tough play, U21 Iceland's Geirröður Snæbjörnsson got a free kick in the 3rd minute. Geirröður Snæbjörnsson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 5thth minute, Ljupko Svast skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 9th match minute, U21 Iceland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ríkarður Ófeigsson to maneuver through the defense. U21 Slovenia's Ljupko Svast proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Slovenia from getting a goal against them. In the 16th minute, Anej Lahajnar made a precise shot to the right of Valur Larsson. U21 Iceland's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. U21 Iceland's Valur Larsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kris Borak in the 26th minute of play. 31 minutes into the match, U21 Slovenia's goal looked a bit too open when Geirröður Snæbjörnsson came free, but Ljupko Svast reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 32 minutes of play, U21 Iceland's Edvin Þórðarson made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ljupko Svast was left in no man's land by his defense there! Arnleifur Sveinbjörnsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Ljupko Svast tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. U21 Iceland's Valur Larsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anej Lahajnar in the 39th minute of play. In the 40th match minute, U21 Slovenia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jošt Čop to maneuver through the defense. The long shot by Þiðrik Georgsson in the 41st minute really tested Ljupko Svast's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. When the match had gone on for 42 minutes, Kornelij Lenart put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Valur Larsson. Valur Larsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kornelij Lenart, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The long shot by Þiðrik Georgsson in the 48th minute really tested Ljupko Svast's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
U21 Slovenia made a substitution. Urh Kresnik replaced Semiko Arnautović. In the 55th minute Geirröður Snæbjörnsson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ljupko Svast saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of U21 Iceland booed when U21 Slovenia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Suljo Zajšek didn't get a good kick on the ball. Þiðrik Georgsson took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 59th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ljupko Svast. U21 Slovenia's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 60th minute Armand Padjen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valur Larsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Armand Padjen in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Valur Larsson saved U21 Iceland from getting behind. If Geirröður Snæbjörnsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 66th minute, U21 Slovenia's Kornelij Lenart ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Valur Larsson. Valur Larsson yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-3. After some careless play in the U21 Iceland defense, Armand Padjen kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Valur Larsson. The U21 Iceland fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Valur Larsson should have stopped the shot. U21 Slovenia's Zahir Junuzović was substituted for Jošt Čop. Kornelij Lenart did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-5 to the left of a surprised Valur Larsson 75 minutes into the match. A collision led to U21 Slovenia getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Chris Mihelčič hit a great ball. After having played for 80 minutes, Þiðrik Georgsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Iceland's supporters crossed their fingers, but Þiðrik Georgsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 83rd minute, Anej Lahajnar made a precise shot to the right of Valur Larsson. U21 Iceland's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-6. Anej Lahajnar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Valur Larsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Armand Padjen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 87 played minutes U21 Iceland got a freekick which was hit by Arnleifur Sveinbjörnsson. Suljo Zajšek received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Valur Larsson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 92 minutes into the game, Edvard Dovgan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Slovenia's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Iceland the free kick. After 92 played minutes U21 Slovenia got a freekick which was hit by Edvard Dovgan. U21 Slovenia's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
