Seating: 3316, VIP seats: 288) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Helmuts Krolcs kicked off to start the match. Dzidris Kalinks showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodrigo Gueifão in the 3rd minute of the match. Dzidris Kalinks took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Afonso Antunes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Silva in the 8th minute of play forced U21 Latvia's goalkeeper Dzidris Kalinks to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. U21 Latvia's Dzidris Kalinks played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eduardo Azevedo in the 10th minute of play. Dzidris Kalinks showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eduardo Azevedo in the 12th minute of the match. 12 minutes into the game, U21 Portugal's Eduardo Azevedo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dzidris Kalinks made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 15thth minute of the game Afonso Antunes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Latvia's Dzidris Kalinks was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Tomás Guerreiro struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Dzidris Kalinks didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Portugal. Dzidris Kalinks showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomás Guerreiro in the 17th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Helmuts Krolcs in the 22nd minute of play forced U21 Portugal's goalkeeper David Assis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the U21 Latvia defense, Afonso Antunes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dzidris Kalinks. The U21 Latvia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dzidris Kalinks should have stopped the shot. Dzidris Kalinks made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Silva in the 32nd minute of play. U21 Portugal's David Assis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Helmuts Krolcs in the 38th minute of play. Dzidris Kalinks showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomás Guerreiro in the 39th minute of the match. Dzidris Kalinks took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as U21 Latvia's Helmuts Krolcs slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of David Assis. That made the score 1-2 after 44 minutes of play.
U21 Latvia made a substitution. Boļeslavs Platonovics replaced Helmuts Krolcs. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Afonso Antunes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dzidris Kalinks made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Afonso Antunes in the 52nd minute of play. Luís Silva could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Dzidris Kalinks made a huge save. Dzidris Kalinks didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Afonso Antunes went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. In the 59th minute Tomás Guerreiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dzidris Kalinks saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by João Daniel during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 66 played minutes U21 Portugal got a freekick which was hit by João Daniel. Dzidris Kalinks showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Afonso Antunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. A collision led to U21 Latvia getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Aivars Erelis hit a great ball. The referee felt a red card was in order, 74 minutes into the game, when Uldis Bērziņš put in a rough tackle. 73 minutes into the game, one of U21 Latvia:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The goalkeeper, Dzidris Kalinks, was totally fooled by U21 Portugal's Nuno Almeida, who 76 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 80th minute, Indulis Kausakis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Afonso Antunes in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dzidris Kalinks prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 89 minutes into the match, U21 Latvia's goal looked a bit too open when António Pedroso came free, but Dzidris Kalinks reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Indulis Kausakis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. David Assis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The U21 Portugal fans' excitement grew in the 93rd match minute when U21 Portugal's Afonso Antunes looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-7 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 96 minutes into the match, U21 Latvia's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Antunes came free, but Dzidris Kalinks reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Afonso Antunes in the 97th minute of play forced U21 Latvia's goalkeeper Dzidris Kalinks to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 99th minute, Nuno Almeida managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Portugal's supporters rose to their feet, but Nuno Almeida was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dzidris Kalinks breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. U21 Portugal's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
