Spectators: 10300 (Terracing: 7725, Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Vígmundur Mánason started the match with the kick off. Geirlaugur Steingrímsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Norberto Tróia in the 8th minute of play. Geirlaugur Steingrímsson came out of the goal in the 10th minute to try and stop a shot by Brazil's Norberto Tróia. But to his dismay, Norberto Tróia quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Kléber Faria's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geirlaugur Steingrímsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. In the 15th minute Brazil were awarded a corner. Davi Luis went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Brazil's Davi Luis to fire away a dangerous shot which Geirlaugur Steingrímsson despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 19 minutes into the game, Norberto Tróia cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Geirlaugur Steingrímsson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 25 played minutes Brazil got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Fernando Reis. An unexpectedly hard shot by Norberto Tróia in the 27th minute of play forced Iceland's goalkeeper Geirlaugur Steingrímsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gerson Brasil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vígmundur Mánason in the 28th minute of play. 31 minutes into the match, Brazil's Norberto Tróia sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Geirlaugur Steingrímsson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A sloppy throw-in by Kornelíus Búason in the 35th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Brazil's Cafu da Cunha. Norberto Tróia's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geirlaugur Steingrímsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Iceland's goalkeeper Geirlaugur Steingrímsson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 43rd minute, Brazil's Kléber Faria dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 4-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 4-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Kléber Faria was the one to do the kick off. Norberto Tróia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 54 minutes into the match, Norberto Tróia notched a goal, 5-0, to the right of Iceland's Geirlaugur Steingrímsson. Geirlaugur Steingrímsson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 56th minute Norberto Tróia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geirlaugur Steingrímsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Brazil's Marquinhos Boldrini was substituted for Hermínio Leme. 59 minutes into the game, Cafu da Cunha threw the ball into play from the sideline. Iceland's Karles Greipsson quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. In the 61st match minute, Iceland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kornelíus Búason to maneuver through the defense. Brazil made a substitution. Betinho de Amaral replaced Michel Queirós. Kornelíus Búason kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. In the 64th minute, Kornelíus Búason hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 65 minutes into the game, Severino Moura cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-0. Geirlaugur Steingrímsson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After some careless play in the Iceland defense, Severino Moura kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Geirlaugur Steingrímsson. The Iceland fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Geirlaugur Steingrímsson should have stopped the shot. In the 70th minute, Severino Moura got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Brazil's Cafu da Cunha got a free kick in the 74th minute. Njáll Gíslason hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. Gerson Brasil took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vígmundur Mánason, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Severino Moura's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geirlaugur Steingrímsson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. In the 88th minute the ball was on its way in behind Iceland's goalkeeper Geirlaugur Steingrímsson, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 89th match minute, Iceland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kornelíus Búason to maneuver through the defense. After 90 minutes of play, Brazil's Severino Moura made it 8-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Geirlaugur Steingrímsson was left in no man's land by his defense there! Luiz Fernando Reis made in the 93rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Iceland's Otri Andrason. In the 96th match minute, Iceland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jochum Sigfastsson to maneuver through the defense. Brazil's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
