In the 25th minute Jake Tilley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vaklin Boychev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 26th minute U21 United States were awarded a corner. Elberg Gota went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led U21 United States's Elberg Gota to fire away a dangerous shot which Vaklin Boychev despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Vaklin Boychev showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jake Tilley in the 31st minute of the match. In the 31stth minute of the game Jake Tilley who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Bulgaria's Vaklin Boychev was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 34th minute, U21 Bulgaria's Zhelyazko Krusharski ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Caleb Esparza. Caleb Esparza yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. When Kamen Benkovski came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the U21 Bulgaria fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kamen Benkovski couldn't finish the play. Caleb Esparza made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Stanko Komsiyski sent off a good shot on target. 44 minutes into the match, U21 United States's goalkeeper Caleb Esparza had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zhelyazko Krusharski. Jim Root hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Mito Bozhurin was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 47th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jake Tilley stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Kamen Benkovski fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Bulgaria's protests and gave Kamen Benkovski a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of U21 United States booed when U21 Bulgaria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kamen Benkovski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vaklin Boychev made a fantastic save in the 55th minute, when Jake Tilley sent off a good shot on target. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Goran Slúnchev during the 57th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Niki Hubev in the 79th minute of play forced U21 United States's goalkeeper Caleb Esparza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 81st minute of the match, Trinidad Peoples tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Vaklin Boychev saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line.
