Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) U21 Turkey's Fatih Sultan-Mehmet started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Johnny Strömbom came up free with the goalie in the 3rd minute, the U21 Sweden fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Johnny Strömbom couldn't finish the play. In the 8thth minute of the game Tommy Gadd who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Turkey's Ömer Rıza İlhan was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Tommy Gadd sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Tommy Gadd's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ömer Rıza İlhan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 9th minute of play. Enes Kafadar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Turkey's zone, Tommy Gadd stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ömer Rıza İlhan came out of the goal and Tommy Gadd tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 17 minutes, Tommy Gadd made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Turkey's Ömer Rıza İlhan tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Alican Kose sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The supporters of U21 Turkey booed when U21 Sweden was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frans Sundberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 27thth minute of the game Fatih Sultan-Mehmet who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Sweden's Bernt Hedvall was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 29 minutes, Tommy Gadd made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Turkey's Ömer Rıza İlhan tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Ömer Rıza İlhan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Gadd in the 33rd minute of the match. Ömer Rıza İlhan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Johnny Strömbom's shot from short distance in the 37th minute. Tommy Gadd might have been able to make a better finish in the 39th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ömer Rıza İlhan. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tommy Gadd ran back to his position shaking his head. 42 minutes into the match, U21 Turkey's goal looked a bit too open when Tommy Gadd came free, but Ömer Rıza İlhan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 44 minutes, Sven-Edvin Holmberg mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Sweden and the U21 Turkey players grew even worse after the yellow card. Sven-Edvin Holmberg kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. In the 47th minute, Tommy Gadd got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The wind increased when Johnny Strömbom made the kick off in the second half. Sten Lustig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Ömer Rıza İlhan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, U21 Turkey's Ömer Rıza İlhan got control of the ball when Sten Lustig tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sten Lustig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 67th minute Sten Lustig shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ömer Rıza İlhan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 70 minutes into the match, U21 Turkey's goalkeeper Ömer Rıza İlhan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Johnny Strömbom. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sten Lustig in the 75th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ömer Rıza İlhan saved U21 Turkey from getting behind. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Sten Lustig put it in 0-5 from a short distance just to the right of Ömer Rıza İlhan. U21 Sweden's Peter Möllgren was substituted for Johnny Strömbom. U21 Sweden made a substitution. Joacim Ekenberg replaced Göran Ibrahimović. Bernt Hedvall showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Enes Kafadar, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. U21 Sweden played a much better game than U21 Turkey and deserved their victory. The U21 Turkey players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
