Ermal Edison made in the 23rd minute of the game a quick throw-in and Zhabir Gjyle immediately put the ball in play. Isallari Mërgim's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Rob Duncan firmly grabbed it by the left post. Rob Duncan came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by Albania's Isallari Mërgim. But to his dismay, Isallari Mërgim quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Drino Lila took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Murdock Rizzardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 31 minutes, Boyde Minne put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Drino Lila. In the 35th minute Australia were awarded a corner. Murdock Rizzardo went to the cornerflag to take it. After some careless play in the Albania defense, Murdock Rizzardo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Drino Lila. The Albania fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Drino Lila should have stopped the shot. Boyde Minne might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Drino Lila. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Boyde Minne ran back to his position shaking his head. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

Berishaj Debatik made a great header on Albania's corner, it was just that Australia's Rob Duncan managed to reach the ball for a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Isallari Mërgim in the 56th minute of play forced Australia's goalkeeper Rob Duncan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Australia getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Sabastian Barling hit a great ball. Rodolf Leka fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rob Duncan having to interfere. Boyde Minne received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Drino Lila came out and tried to block the shot, but Boyde Minne slotted it home off the left post making it 1-4 in the 60th minute. In the 64th minute, Boyde Minne left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Australia fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-5.
