The Huvudstaden fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bengt Apelquist should have stopped the shot. Bengt Apelquist came out of the goal in the 5th minute to try and stop a shot by Deportivo Alavés's Adalmo Saldanha. But to his dismay, Adalmo Saldanha quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lesardo Alavedra got free with Bengt Apelquist in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Bengt Apelquist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lesardo Alavedra in the 12th minute of the match. In the 13th match minute, Huvudstaden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Staffan Bruhn to maneuver through the defense. Bengt Apelquist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vincent Solera in the 19th minute of play. Lesardo Alavedra scored 3-0 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bengt Apelquist, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 31st minute, Lesardo Alavedra made a precise shot to the right of Bengt Apelquist. Huvudstaden's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-0. Eralp Sipahi kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. In the 42nd minute Generoso Estrada shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bengt Apelquist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Deportivo Alavés's Wiggo Wipp got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Lesardo Alavedra to strike the kick off in the second half. Huvudstaden's Bengt Apelquist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andrés Iniesta in the 51st minute of play. Bengt Apelquist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lesardo Alavedra, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Lesardo Alavedra succeeded in the game's 53rd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 5-0. Andrés Iniesta's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bengt Apelquist read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 58th minute of play. Bengt Apelquist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lesardo Alavedra in the 59th minute of play. In the 62nd minute Vincent Solera shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bengt Apelquist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bengt Apelquist didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lesardo Alavedra went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-0 was the resulting score. In the 69th minute Lesardo Alavedra shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bengt Apelquist saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 71 minutes, Evander Zabel successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 72 minutes into the match, Deportivo Alavés's Lesardo Alavedra sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bengt Apelquist narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Lesardo Alavedra struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Bengt Apelquist didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Deportivo Alavés. Bengt Apelquist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lesardo Alavedra, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Lesardo Alavedra's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bengt Apelquist read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. Alanzo Verdeja charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alanzo Verdeja the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Deportivo Alavés getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Alanzo Verdeja hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Deportivo Alavés's Alanzo Verdeja got a free kick in the 92nd minute. In the 96th minute, Lesardo Alavedra left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Deportivo Alavés fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-0. Deportivo Alavés's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
