Brendon Fish started the match with the kick off. If Rikard Åkesson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 5 minutes into the match, Zamalek FC's goal looked a bit too open when Albert Gray came free, but Merlin Dolan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 6 minutes into the match, Zamalek FC's goalkeeper Merlin Dolan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ove Lövkvist. Albert Gray's late challenge caught a Zamalek FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Albert Gray helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to IFK Göteborg getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Albert Gray hit a great ball. The supporters of Zamalek FC booed when IFK Göteborg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mattias Biörkman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lloyd Warren, 14 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. In the 18th minute Ove Lövkvist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Merlin Dolan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 19 minutes Zamalek FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ove Lövkvist who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Jörgen Hammarberg almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Zamalek FC's Merlin Dolan did a great save. With a little luck, Zamalek FC's Merlin Dolan got control of the ball when Rikard Åkesson tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 22nd minute of the match IFK Göteborg got a corner. Zamalek FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ove Lövkvist ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 25 minutes, Albert Gray made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Zamalek FC's Merlin Dolan tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 28 minutes into the match, IFK Göteborg's goal looked a bit too open when Brendon Fish came free, but Florin Dorlea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Zamalek FC's Merlin Dolan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Albert Gray in the 29th minute of play. Florin Dorlea showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Brendon Fish, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as IFK Göteborg's Rikard Åkesson slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Merlin Dolan. That made the score 2-0 after 33 minutes of play. With a little luck, Zamalek FC's Merlin Dolan got control of the ball when Rikard Åkesson tried to sneak it across the goal line. 40 minutes into the match, Zamalek FC's goalkeeper Merlin Dolan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rikard Åkesson. 3-0 became the score in the 45th minute when Albert Gray elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Albert Gray stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Zamalek FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jens-Ove Lindkvist came free, but Merlin Dolan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Zamalek FC booed when IFK Göteborg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rikard Åkesson didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 60 played minutes Zamalek FC got a freekick which was hit by Lloyd Warren. In the 61st match minute, Zamalek FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Otto Ciauri to maneuver through the defense. Albert Gray recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Albert Gray in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Merlin Dolan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 72nd minute, Albert Gray hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Merlin Dolan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jens-Ove Lindkvist, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. Lloyd Warren received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Florin Dorlea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jens-Ove Lindkvist blasted a shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Merlin Dolan having to make a save. Merlin Dolan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jens-Ove Lindkvist, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Ove Lövkvist recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ove Lövkvist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Merlin Dolan having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rikard Åkesson in the 94th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Merlin Dolan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Zamalek FC's zone, Rikard Åkesson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Merlin Dolan came out of the goal and Rikard Åkesson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. IFK Göteborg fully deserved thier win.
