Gremio Viana's supporters crossed their fingers, but Augustin Panaiteanu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Go Ahead Eagles's Rafa Lojewski proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Go Ahead Eagles from getting a goal against them. 17 minutes into the match, Facundo Bot notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Gremio Viana's Samuel Fiúza. Samuel Fiúza was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Iustin Bâru sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After the first half Go Ahead Eagles were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Jiang De in the 53rd minute of play forced Go Ahead Eagles's goalkeeper Rafa Lojewski to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Go Ahead Eagles fans' excitement grew in the 57th match minute when Go Ahead Eagles's Iustin Bâru looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Samuel Fiúza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Facundo Bot, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. After some careless play in the Gremio Viana defense, Erling Lewandowski kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Samuel Fiúza. The Gremio Viana fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Samuel Fiúza should have stopped the shot. Rafa Lojewski stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Luna's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mohamed Ali Bomba during the 88th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 88th minute, Mohamed Ali Bomba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Gremio Viana supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Go Ahead Eagles's performance. The match ended with a win for Go Ahead Eagles.
