Anatole Nielispach showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fikret Uluğ in the 18th minute of the match. Cláudio-André Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tage Falk in the 22nd minute of play. A collision led to Van Spor getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Jaime Oinaz hit a great ball. Anatole Nielispach showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Berker Özgunay in the 25th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Doğan Neşet in the 28th minute of play forced Van Spor's goalkeeper Cláudio-André Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cláudio-André Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doğan Neşet, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Bedih İskenderoğlu charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bedih İskenderoğlu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The player immediately received a yellow card. Van Spor made a substitution. Sefa Onat replaced Fikret Uluğ. Anatole Nielispach had in the 49thth minute some difficulties stopping Ogün Özerdinc's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball.

In the 54th minute Doğan Neşet shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cláudio-André Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 56 minutes into the game, Palestine's Çınar Başkurt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. After some careless play in the Van Spor defense, Doğan Neşet kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cláudio-André Taffarel. The Van Spor fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cláudio-André Taffarel should have stopped the shot. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Palestine had played much better football throughout.
