Laércio de Andrade might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Arturo Tosi. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bagni's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Michael Laudrup ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 28 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Bagni! In the 29th minute there was a penalty for Internacional. Michael Laudrup stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Arturo Tosi. 0-3. Laércio de Andrade blasted a shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Arturo Tosi having to make a save. In the 34th minute Laércio de Andrade shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arturo Tosi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Geronimo Rulli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaromír Čížek, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Bagni's goalie and right to Rafael Abarca. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Bagni's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

52 minutes into the match, Laércio de Andrade dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Arturo Tosi, 0-4. Bagni's Ksawery Pruss was substituted for Kandemir Onurad. The supporters of Internacional booed when Bagni was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bagni's defense didn't have a chance, in the 79th minute, when Evaristo Costa scored to the left of an out of position Arturo Tosi, making the score, 0-7. Bagni's Arturo Tosi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save Bagni from getting a goal against them. 86 minutes had been played when some careless play by Bagni's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Zigor Abeita was slow to take the kick. During this time Internacional's players had a chance to rest. Internacional's Zigor Abeita was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Arturo Tosi in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Arturo Tosi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Evaristo Costa's shot from short distance in the 92nd minute. 94 minutes into the match, Bagni's goalkeeper Arturo Tosi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Evaristo Costa. Internacional's Evaristo Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Internacional's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
