In the 8th minute, Durval de Queirós ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Alex Pihl was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Manoel Neuer stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cornel Ulici's shot from short distance in the 11th minute. Jovens Democratas MZC's Manoel Neuer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Jovens Democratas MZC from getting a goal against them. In the 15th minute Xu Li Sang shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alex Pihl saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Manoel Neuer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leif Olofsson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 17 minutes into the match, Jovens Democratas MZC's goal looked a bit too open when Cornel Ulici came free, but Manoel Neuer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 18thth minute of the game Cornel Ulici who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Jovens Democratas MZC's Manoel Neuer was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Dobromir Zagrodny kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. 33 minutes had been played when some careless play by SK Mons's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Dobromir Zagrodny was slow to take the kick. During this time Jovens Democratas MZC's players had a chance to rest. Alex Pihl took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Durval de Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. SK Mons's Alex Pihl played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dobromir Zagrodny in the 41st minute of play. After 42 played minutes Jovens Democratas MZC got a freekick which was hit by Jozef Ilve. Manoel Neuer made an important save on a dangerous shot by Peng Xu in the 43rd minute. Lúcio Cruz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Alex Pihl tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 50th match minute, Jovens Democratas MZC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Xu Li Sang to maneuver through the defense. 53 minutes into the game, Connor Osmond was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SK Mons's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Jovens Democratas MZC the free kick. Connor Osmond hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Carlinhos Tróia was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 55th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Lúcio Cruz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Alex Pihl made a huge save. After a rather tough play, SK Mons's Ruben Smidts got a free kick in the 57th minute. In the 58th minute, Cornel Ulici hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 60 minutes, Marco van Basten managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jovens Democratas MZC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marco van Basten was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 68 minutes into the match, Jovens Democratas MZC's goal looked a bit too open when Cornel Ulici came free, but Manoel Neuer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, SK Mons's Alex Pihl got control of the ball when Durval de Queirós tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Lúcio Cruz came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Jovens Democratas MZC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lúcio Cruz couldn't finish the play. Jovens Democratas MZC's Serginho Sabóia was substituted for Marco van Basten. SK Mons's Alex Pihl proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save SK Mons from getting a goal against them. Alex Pihl showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Durval de Queirós, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Serginho Sabóia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jovens Democratas MZC played a much better game than SK Mons and deserved their victory. The SK Mons players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
