Efrain Arnaez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 17 played minutes Girona FC got a freekick which was hit by Hector-Luis Alfaro. After 18 minutes, Gilberto Guadamuz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the PUNTARENAS F.C and the Girona FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, PUNTARENAS F.C's Gilberto Guadamuz got a free kick in the 18th minute. After a defensive mix-up in PUNTARENAS F.C's zone, Oriol Azofra stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Efrain Arnaez came out of the goal and Oriol Azofra tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Belisario Llorente scored 1-2 in the 21st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Efrain Arnaez, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 27th minute, Reynaldo Gimenez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Girona FC's zone, Eduardo Caballero stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Toni Vera came out of the goal and Eduardo Caballero tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Efrain Arnaez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arxel Pareja, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Toni Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Olger Porras went, in the 36th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. If Olger Porras had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 40 minutes into the game, Leizarraga Campomanes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Girona FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave PUNTARENAS F.C the free kick. Leizarraga Campomanes hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Olger Porras to strike the kick off in the second half. Leizarraga Campomanes was shown his second yellow card after 54 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. A collision led to Girona FC getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Leizarraga Campomanes hit a great ball. In the 60th minute, Leo Dobale left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Girona FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. Erlantz Cienfuegos's late challenge caught a PUNTARENAS F.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Erlantz Cienfuegos helped the player get up and apologised. After 68 played minutes Girona FC got a freekick which was hit by Erlantz Cienfuegos. Eduardo Caballero charged in rather forcefully in the 73rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eduardo Caballero the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to PUNTARENAS F.C getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Girona FC's Toni Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olger Porras in the 83rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arxel Pareja in the 91st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Efrain Arnaez prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Girona FC's Belisario Llorente got a free kick in the 91st minute. In the 95th minute Olger Porras shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Toni Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Toni Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilberto Guadamuz in the 97th minute of the match. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Girona FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
