The audience thought a goal was coming when Yeferson Soteldo got free with Walter Huarte in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 12th match minute, Astillero del Guayas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dani Galiana to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ciro Torrascasana in the 14th minute of play forced Astillero del Guayas's goalkeeper Walter Huarte to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Yeferson Soteldo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Walter Huarte was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. It was beautiful to see Astillero del Guayas's Ulizes Sola in action when he in the 45th minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Ciro Torrascasana made the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Ciro Torrascasana managed to get in a good position for a shot. Criciúma Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Ciro Torrascasana was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tiburcio Haces made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dani Galiana in the 70th minute of play. 78 minutes into the match, Yeferson Soteldo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Walter Huarte. Astillero del Guayas's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Yeferson Soteldo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Walter Huarte made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ciro Torrascasana in the 85th minute of play. Paredes Campderros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Walter Huarte showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yeferson Soteldo in the 92nd minute of the match. The supporters of Criciúma Esporte Clube booed when Astillero del Guayas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hakkı Deniz Bedi didn't get a good kick on the ball. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Criciúma Esporte Clube were victorious despite being under pressure from Astillero del Guayas for much of the match.
