But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Betinho Rodrigues couldn't finish the play. 12 minutes into the match, Betinho Rodrigues notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Club Atlético Magallanes's Leon Oliverio. Leon Oliverio was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 18 minutes into the game, Matías Zonta threw the ball into play from the sideline. Club Atlético Magallanes's Augusto Xabier quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After a defensive mix-up in Club Atlético Magallanes's zone, Matías Zonta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leon Oliverio came out of the goal and Matías Zonta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 21st minute, Mauro Lobo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Ronaldo Crispín's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Leon Oliverio was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. Inácio Pires kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Pedro Paulo de Azevedo came out of the goal in the 29th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Atlético Magallanes's Taci Argün. But to his dismay, Taci Argün quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. São Paulo F.C.'s Pedro Paulo de Azevedo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mauro Lobo in the 32nd minute of play. After 35 minutes of play, São Paulo F.C.'s Ronaldo Crispín made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Leon Oliverio was left in no man's land by his defense there! Fabio Vargas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Leon Oliverio made a huge save. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Club Atlético Magallanes's goalkeeper Leon Oliverio, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mauro Lobo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pedro Paulo de Azevedo having to make a save. The supporters of Club Atlético Magallanes booed when São Paulo F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Betinho Rodrigues didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 47th minute, Taci Argün got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ronaldo Crispín was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute Fabio Vargas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leon Oliverio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 54 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Magallanes's goal looked a bit too open when Fabio Vargas came free, but Leon Oliverio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mauro Lobo's late challenge caught a São Paulo F.C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mauro Lobo helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Club Atlético Magallanes getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Mauro Lobo hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fabio Vargas in the 61st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Leon Oliverio saved Club Atlético Magallanes from getting behind. In the 66th minute Mauro Lobo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Paulo de Azevedo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Betinho Rodrigues in the 73rd minute of play forced Club Atlético Magallanes's goalkeeper Leon Oliverio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 77th minute Club Atlético Magallanes were awarded a corner. Mauro Lobo went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Club Atlético Magallanes's corner Mauro Lobo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Pedro Paulo de Azevedo quite easily take care of the ball. Leon Oliverio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Betinho Rodrigues, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Club Atlético Magallanes defense, Fabio Vargas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Leon Oliverio. The Club Atlético Magallanes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leon Oliverio should have stopped the shot. In the 93rd minute, Matías Zonta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the Club Atlético Magallanes players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for São Paulo F.C..
