The supporters of Gimnasia y tiro booed when Sportivo Chupeño was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugo Abajas didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Misael Abarca in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hilario Ubendu saved Gimnasia y tiro from getting behind. Gimnasia y tiro's Hilario Ubendu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hugo Abajas in the 16th minute of play. The supporters of Sportivo Chupeño booed when Gimnasia y tiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Armando Basualdo didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 19 played minutes Sportivo Chupeño got a freekick which was hit by Ildefonso Abaunza. Miguel Arixo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Agustin Avellaneda read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Sportivo Chupeño's goalkeeper Agustin Avellaneda had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bernardo Mingo. When Chepe Abel fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sportivo Chupeño's protests and gave Chepe Abel a yellow card for diving instead. In the 22nd minute, Chepe Abel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Sportivo Chupeño's Agustin Avellaneda got control of the ball when Bernardo Mingo tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bernardo Mingo got free with Agustin Avellaneda in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 39 minutes into the match, Sportivo Chupeño's goal looked a bit too open when Miguel Arixo came free, but Agustin Avellaneda reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hilario Ubendu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Misael Abarca in the 42nd minute of play. Hilario Ubendu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugo Abajas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Gimnasia y tiro getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Dalmacio Cordarrol hit a great ball. After 45 played minutes, Sportivo Chupeño's Ascencio Abechuco shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Hilario Ubendu came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sportivo Chupeño reached it. Gimnasia y tiro's Hilario Ubendu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Misael Abarca in the 46th minute of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Agustin Avellaneda showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Damaso Benvido, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. In the 53rdth minute of the game Damaso Benvido who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sportivo Chupeño's Agustin Avellaneda was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 57th match minute, Sportivo Chupeño was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chepe Abel to maneuver through the defense. Armando Basualdo took the ball and in the 59 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Agustin Avellaneda. Agustin Avellaneda dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. After some careless play in the Gimnasia y tiro defense, Misael Abarca kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hilario Ubendu. The Gimnasia y tiro fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hilario Ubendu should have stopped the shot. In the 68th minute, Sportivo Chupeño's Ildefonso Abaunza seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Ildefonso Abaunza the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Sportivo Chupeño protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Ildefonso Abaunza had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Agustin Avellaneda had in the 71stth minute some difficulties stopping Miguel Arixo's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Misael Abarca got free with Hilario Ubendu in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ascencio Abechuco hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Gimnasia y tiro's Bernardo Mingo got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hilario Ubendu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Misael Abarca's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. Sportivo Chupeño's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
