Tarcisio Botelho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Percival Tavares having to interfere. André Maranhense did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-1 to the left of a surprised Percival Tavares 21 minutes into the match. E.C. Galera's Olavo de Medeiros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Celsinho Bittencourt in the 26th minute of play. Deivid de Sousa hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. After 32 played minutes E.C. Galera got a freekick which was hit by Deivid de Sousa. A collision led to E.C. Galera getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Tião Pernambucano hit a great ball. Olavo de Medeiros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Celsinho Bittencourt in the 37th minute of play. In the 39th minute, Júlio Nascimento left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The E.C. Galera fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. The supporters of Inter de São Paulo booed when E.C. Galera was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Deivid de Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Júlio Nascimento to make the kick off. Galera booed when Inter de São Paulo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mathias Brasil didn't get a good kick on the ball. E.C. Galera's Olavo de Medeiros proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 81st minute of the match, managed to save E.C. Galera from getting a goal against them. The referee felt a red card was in order, 82 minutes into the game, when Carlinhos de Carvalho put in a rough tackle. Carlinhos de Carvalho hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match.
