When the match clock showed 3 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Liu Feng Guang sped through Adelaide's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Kirby Houldsworth. Elpidio Gai succeeded in the game's 8th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-2. 12 minutes into the match, Adelaide's goal looked a bit too open when Elpidio Gai came free, but Kirby Houldsworth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 13 minutes Adelaide's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tyson Touro who took care of the corner kick. Tyson Touro made a great header on GRÊMIO's corner, it was just that Adelaide's Kirby Houldsworth managed to reach the ball for a save. Anísio Esteves's late challenge caught a Adelaide's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Anísio Esteves helped the player get up and apologised. Anísio Esteves kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. 17 minutes into the game, GRÊMIO's Liu Feng Guang nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kirby Houldsworth made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. The GRÊMIO fans' excitement grew in the 20th match minute when GRÊMIO's Elpidio Gai looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. An unexpectedly hard shot by Liu Feng Guang in the 23rd minute of play forced Adelaide's goalkeeper Kirby Houldsworth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 23rd minute, Alberto Shipp hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Jake Auger fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Adelaide's protests and gave Jake Auger a yellow card for diving instead. Jake Auger kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 29 minutes, Liu Feng Guang put it in 0-5 from a short distance just to the right of Kirby Houldsworth. GRÊMIO's Carlos Miguel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save GRÊMIO from getting a goal against them. In the 37th minute, Liu Feng Guang left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The GRÊMIO fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-6. 39 minutes into the match, Liu Feng Guang had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Kirby Houldsworth. Adelaide's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Liu Feng Guang was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-7. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Liu Feng Guang put it in 0-8 from a short distance just to the right of Kirby Houldsworth. Elpidio Gai charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Elpidio Gai the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 47th match minute, GRÊMIO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Elpidio Gai to maneuver through the defense.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cregan Porteus was the one to do the kick off. Alberto Shipp received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Carlos Miguel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Liu Feng Guang got free with Kirby Houldsworth in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 58 minutes into the game, Liu Feng Guang was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. GRÊMIO's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Adelaide the free kick. After 58 played minutes GRÊMIO got a freekick which was hit by Liu Feng Guang. Liu Feng Guang recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Tyson Touro came up free with the goalie in the 70th minute, the GRÊMIO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tyson Touro couldn't finish the play. In the 79th minute Elpidio Gai shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kirby Houldsworth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Elpidio Gai in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kirby Houldsworth saved Adelaide from getting behind. Liu Feng Guang sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. GRÊMIO's Liu Feng Guang was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 86th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. The supporters of GRÊMIO booed when Adelaide was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alberto Shipp didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tyson Touro hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, GRÊMIO's Lino da Costa got a free kick in the 96th minute. The Adelaide fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. GRÊMIO were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
