Attila Kerékgyártó made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 23 minutes into the match, Sporting Savaria's goal looked a bit too open when Folke Lidman came free, but Attila Kerékgyártó reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 25th minute, Claes Bratt left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FK Crvena Zvezda fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Attila Kerékgyártó came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by FK Crvena Zvezda's Otto Levander. But to his dismay, Otto Levander quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. After 38 played minutes Sporting Savaria got a freekick which was hit by Erik Benke. After having played for 39 minutes, Claes Bratt managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FK Crvena Zvezda's supporters crossed their fingers, but Claes Bratt was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Sporting Savaria defense, Claes Bratt kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Attila Kerékgyártó. The Sporting Savaria fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Attila Kerékgyártó should have stopped the shot. After 46 minutes of play, FK Crvena Zvezda's Johan Gunnarsson made it 0-6 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Attila Kerékgyártó was left in no man's land by his defense there! Disappointed in the 0-6 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
