After 26 minutes, Ernest Eftimescu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Politehnica Timisoara and the Club El Progreso players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC Politehnica Timisoara's Ernest Eftimescu got a free kick in the 26th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robert Koren in the 30th minute of play forced Club El Progreso's goalkeeper Javier Milei to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ricardo-Enrique Bochini scored 0-2 in the 42nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Javier Milei, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! Javier Milei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ricardo-Enrique Bochini in the 84th minute of the match. When Mateo Orzaize fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club El Progreso's protests and gave Mateo Orzaize a yellow card for diving instead. In the 91st minute, Mateo Orzaize hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 92nd minute of the match Ernest Eftimescu shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Javier Milei showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 94th match minute, Club El Progreso was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Artemio Hegoi to maneuver through the defense. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. FC Politehnica Timisoara had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
