After 24 minutes, Rodrigo Costa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Atlético da Colina and the Valencia C.F. players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Valencia C.F. booed when Atlético da Colina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodrigo Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Florentin Gougeon couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Valencia C.F.'s zone, Chico Bastos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Andoni Zubizarreta came out of the goal and Chico Bastos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

Atlético da Colina made a substitution. Paulo Oliveira replaced Manoel Penha. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Chico Bastos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. João Fantini could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Andoni Zubizarreta made a huge save. In the 61st minute, Rodrigo Costa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 72 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s Florentin Gougeon sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Carlos Germano narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
