Lucien Decottignies fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Prudentio Telaeche having to interfere. Genaro Aránguiz hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. If Jean-Charles Gauche had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. A collision led to Club Deportes La Serena getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Manolo Monardes hit a great ball. Prudentio Telaeche made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jean-Charles Gauche in the 36th minute of play. A hard shot 39 in the game by Dove Roig from a close distance when the talented Prudentio Telaeche managed to make a qualified save. Club Deportes La Serena's players were relieved. After 40 played minutes Club Deportes La Serena got a freekick which was hit by Geraldo Alcázar. In the 43rd minute, Genaro Aránguiz made a precise shot to the right of Norbert Domenech. Herblay's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Dove Roig made the kick off in the second half. In the 59th match minute, Club Deportes La Serena was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maurín Parot to maneuver through the defense. Herblay's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Genaro Aránguiz 61 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-2. Club Deportes La Serena made a substitution. Ismael Nazario Deves replaced Florín Pretot. After 72 minutes, Mustapha Guilbert mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Herblay and the Club Deportes La Serena players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 73rd minute of the match Juan Carlos Seraín sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Norbert Domenech skillfully saved the ball. 76 minutes into the match, Herblay's goal looked a bit too open when Genaro Aránguiz came free, but Norbert Domenech reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 77th minute Club Deportes La Serena were awarded a corner. Genaro Aránguiz went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Genaro Aránguiz got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Norbert Domenech quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Norbert Domenech didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 87th minute, which inside left pole to 2-4. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Genaro Aránguiz in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Norbert Domenech saved Herblay from getting behind. Genaro Aránguiz, 93 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal.
