Carlos Campidelis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Naldo Abreu having to interfere. 11 minutes into the game, Mexilhão F. C.'s Olívio Maranhense nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Naldo Abreu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. A collision led to Mexilhão F. C. getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. João Francisco Mota hit a great ball. If Luís Gustavo Corrêa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Vágner Alagoano's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcelinho Matorin was relentless in the 24th minute of the game. Mexilhão F. C.'s fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
