Miguel Sancho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tommi Ooms made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Amador Urti sent off a good shot on target. Leon Bartuelo's late challenge caught a Selebi-Phikwe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Leon Bartuelo helped the player get up and apologised. Jean De Meesemaeckere recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 26 played minutes Newells Old Boys got a freekick which was hit by Silverio Suarez. When Ladislao Jerardo fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newells Old Boys's protests and gave Ladislao Jerardo a yellow card for diving instead. In the 29th minute, Usaden Abiche hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Selebi-Phikwe's Jean De Meesemaeckere in the 32nd minute got a chance for a shot 32nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 39thth minute of the game Jean De Meesemaeckere who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newells Old Boys's Miguel Sancho was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Miguel Sancho didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Selebi-Phikwe's Jean De Meesemaeckere shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 0-3 in the ordered_time% minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Selebi-Phikwe's Anthony Labrouche was substituted for Usaden Abiche. 55 minutes into the game, Benjamin Valiente was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Newells Old Boys's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Selebi-Phikwe the free kick. After 58 minutes of play Newells Old Boys's Leon Bartuelo was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Leon Bartuelo hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jean De Meesemaeckere in the 67th minute of play forced Newells Old Boys's goalkeeper Miguel Sancho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jean De Meesemaeckere in the 68thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Miguel Sancho, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. If Jean De Meesemaeckere had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Jean De Meesemaeckere's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Miguel Sancho was relentless in the 96th minute of the game. Jasper Van Linthaut recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Newells Old Boys fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Selebi-Phikwe were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
