He walked away shaking his head. Tommi Ooms made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lúcio Eger in the 24th minute of play. 26 minutes into the game, Selebi-Phikwe's Jean De Meesemaeckere nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ronaldo Matos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 30th minute, Cederique Van Calster hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ronaldo Matos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alain Roeckeloes in the 35th minute of play. 36 minutes into the game, Ernani de Mendonça was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AVAÍ F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Selebi-Phikwe the free kick. After 37 played minutes AVAÍ F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Ernani de Mendonça. In the 41st match minute, Selebi-Phikwe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jurgen Dhondt to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Selebi-Phikwe's Anthony Labrouche was substituted for Usaden Abiche. Murilo Martins could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Tommi Ooms made a huge save. Ernani de Mendonça was shown his second yellow card after 55 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 55th match minute, AVAÍ F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ernani de Mendonça to maneuver through the defense. 58 minutes into the match, Alain Roeckeloes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ronaldo Matos. AVAÍ F.C.'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alain Roeckeloes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. In the 61st minute, Oswaldo Recife hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ronaldo Matos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alain Roeckeloes in the 64th minute of the match. Lúcio Eger's late challenge caught a Selebi-Phikwe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lúcio Eger helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to AVAÍ F.C. getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Lúcio Eger hit a great ball. 68 minutes into the match, AVAÍ F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Jean De Meesemaeckere came free, but Ronaldo Matos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ronaldo Matos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jean De Meesemaeckere in the 69th minute of play. 69 minutes into the game, Murilo Martins was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. After 73 played minutes Selebi-Phikwe got a freekick which was hit by Alain Roeckeloes. Murilo Martins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, AVAÍ F.C.'s Albertinho Lucas got a free kick in the 79th minute. Selebi-Phikwe's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
