The referee ignored Newells Old Boys's protests and gave German Donio a yellow card for diving instead. In the 15th minute, Alex Emander sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Newells Old Boys's Miguel Sancho didn't even have to move. Linus Hjortsberg succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-0 in the 16th playminute. Prospero Ekhi charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Prospero Ekhi the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Newells Old Boys getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. The Söderbröder fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. Miguel Sancho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Linus Hjortsberg in the 39th minute. Prospero Ekhi was shown his second yellow card after 40 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After having played for 41 minutes, Uno Sundström managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Söderbröder's supporters crossed their fingers, but Uno Sundström was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 42nd match minute, Newells Old Boys was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amador Urti to maneuver through the defense. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Amador Urti stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
