FC Basel's defense didn't have a chance, in the 10th minute, when Afonso da Cunha scored to the left of an out of position Okanalp Tuncer, making the score, 2-0. The crowd rose to their feet as Afonso da Cunha kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Okanalp Tuncer. That made the score 3-0 in the 15 minute of play. 19 minutes into the game, FC Basel's Nicolas Sarmento nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ludomil Ziomkowski made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. When Gavino Castulo fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Basel's protests and gave Gavino Castulo a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of CA Metropolitano - FSCMZ booed when FC Basel was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gavino Castulo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Afonso da Cunha could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Okanalp Tuncer made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Afonso da Cunha in the 24th minute of play forced FC Basel's goalkeeper Okanalp Tuncer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Okanalp Tuncer was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Afonso da Cunha showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 4-1 in the 29 minute of play. 36 minutes into the match, FC Basel's goalkeeper Okanalp Tuncer had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Afonso da Cunha. Okanalp Tuncer didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Afonso da Cunha went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-1 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Afonso da Cunha in the 62nd minute of play forced FC Basel's goalkeeper Okanalp Tuncer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd match minute, FC Basel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gavino Castulo to maneuver through the defense. In the 70th minute, Afonso da Cunha made a precise shot to the right of Okanalp Tuncer. FC Basel's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 7-1. But to his dismay, Afonso da Cunha quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 8-1. Okanalp Tuncer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Afonso da Cunha, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. FC Basel's Okanalp Tuncer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Afonso da Cunha in the 93rd minute of play. FC Basel's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
