Jâninho Potiguar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Carlos Vianna in the 6th minute of play. 7 minutes into the match, Lyon's goal looked a bit too open when João Carlos Vianna came free, but Jâninho Potiguar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jâninho Potiguar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Carlos Vianna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wambalamba FC's Cris Courtois proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Wambalamba FC from getting a goal against them. Cris Courtois stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jean-Marc Coquerel's shot from short distance in the 10th minute. 11 minutes into the match, Wambalamba FC's goalkeeper Cris Courtois had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jean-Cyrille Bellot. A nice corner shot did that Cristoforo Di Loreto got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Cris Courtois quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Jâninho Potiguar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juarês Donato, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lyon's Jâninho Potiguar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juarês Donato in the 21st minute of play. When Lyon's Jonas Botte in the 26th minute got a chance for a shot 26th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Wambalamba FC's goalie prevented a goal. The supporters of Wambalamba FC booed when Lyon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jean-Cyrille Bellot didn't get a good kick on the ball. Robin Steckamp received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Jâninho Potiguar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Wambalamba FC's Juarês Donato in the 32nd minute got a chance for a shot 32nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Lyon's goalie prevented a goal. Dove Deligne kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. Robin Steckamp blasted a shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jâninho Potiguar having to make a save. Cris Courtois made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Jean-Marc Coquerel sent off a good shot on target. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jean-Marc Coquerel during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After some careless play in the Lyon defense, Brian Finnman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jâninho Potiguar. The Lyon fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jâninho Potiguar should have stopped the shot. After the first half Wambalamba FC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Robin Steckamp stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Lyon's Jâninho Potiguar got control of the ball when Brian Finnman tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 55th match minute, Wambalamba FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brian Finnman to maneuver through the defense. Jâninho Potiguar showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Brian Finnman in the 64th minute of the match. Wambalamba FC were awarded a corner in the 65th minute after Lyon's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Brian Finnman took the corner. Wambalamba FC's Brian Finnman was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jâninho Potiguar in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After a rather tough play, Lyon's Alain Mainguet got a free kick in the 69th minute. Jâninho Potiguar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brian Finnman in the 70th minute of play. 73 minutes into the match, Lyon's goal looked a bit too open when João Carlos Vianna came free, but Jâninho Potiguar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jâninho Potiguar made an important save on a dangerous shot by Robin Steckamp in the 77th minute. If Fabiano Borel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 88th minute, Fabiano Borel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 90 minutes, Jean-Cyrille Bellot mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lyon and the Wambalamba FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 90th match minute, Lyon was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jean-Cyrille Bellot to maneuver through the defense.
