In the 2nd minute Ramiro Isusko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chiquito Martinez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benedicto Lauro kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. Benjy Benton's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 7thth minute, Nery Pumpido skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Nery Pumpido made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benjy Benton in the 8th minute of play. 9 minutes into the game, Ernesto Nalo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Tabossi's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independiente the free kick. After 9 played minutes Tabossi got a freekick which was hit by Ernesto Nalo. If Anastasio Iraitz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Flavio Laurgain who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 21stth minute tested the skills of Nery Pumpido when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Benjy Benton in the 24th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nery Pumpido prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 25th minute of the match Independiente got a corner. Tabossi's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jorg Pieters ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Tabossi's goalie and right to Anastasio Iraitz. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Tabossi's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Flavio Laurgain struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Nery Pumpido didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Independiente. Ramiro Isusko's late challenge caught a Independiente's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ramiro Isusko helped the player get up and apologised. Ramiro Isusko kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tadeo Eneas in the 45th minute of play forced Independiente's goalkeeper Chiquito Martinez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tadeo Eneas to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Independiente's Benjy Benton got a free kick in the 52nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Benjy Benton in the 54th minute of play forced Tabossi's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 58 played minutes Independiente got a freekick which was hit by Anastasio Iraitz. Nery Pumpido showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benjy Benton in the 63rd minute of the match. Tabossi's Fausto Ganix was substituted for Fabio Ferman. Nery Pumpido showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Benjy Benton, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. A collision led to Tabossi getting a freekick after 72 minutes play. Benedicto Lauro hit a great ball. In the 74th minute Flavio Laurgain shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 82nd minute, Armando Bondi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some careless play in the Tabossi defense, Benjy Benton kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nery Pumpido. The Tabossi fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nery Pumpido should have stopped the shot. The supporters of Independiente booed when Tabossi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fausto Ganix didn't get a good kick on the ball. Filomeno Guifre charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Filomeno Guifre the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 88th match minute, Tabossi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Filomeno Guifre to maneuver through the defense. 89 minutes into the match, Jorg Pieters notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Tabossi's Nery Pumpido. Nery Pumpido was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Armando Bondi might have been able to make a better finish in the 92nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Chiquito Martinez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Armando Bondi ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 95th minute, Anastasio Iraitz left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Independiente fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. When the referee ended the match the Independiente players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
