Afonso Galvão hit a great ball. In the 15th minute of the match Osmar de Moraes shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Laércio Sá showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Edgard Cabral might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Laércio Sá. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edgard Cabral ran back to his position shaking his head. Edgard Cabral's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Laércio Sá read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. In the 21st minute, Edgard Cabral made a precise shot to the right of Laércio Sá.
