Tractorul Satulung -MM-'s Panait Hațegan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cyrille Melon in the 12th minute of play. Tractorul Satulung -MM- were awarded a corner in the 17th minute after R.C. Marseille's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Afonsinho Barros took the corner. A well-hit corner resulted in Codruț Ferenț heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Cyrille Melon scored 1-1 in the 21st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Panait Hațegan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 27th minute, Afonsinho Barros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 29th minute Cyrille Melon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Panait Hațegan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Didier Lafargue took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Codruț Ferenț, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Through an outstanding action, after 32 minutes, Didier Lafargue successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. R.C. Marseille's Didier Lafargue proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save R.C. Marseille from getting a goal against them. In the 39thth minute of the game Mihail Toader who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Tractorul Satulung -MM-'s Panait Hațegan was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpected shot in the 44th minute by Adrian Mutu got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Tractorul Satulung -MM-'s Panait Hațegan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cyrille Melon in the 45th minute of play. Mădălin Cangeopol sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.

Marseille's goal looked a bit too open when Mădălin Cangeopol came free, but Didier Lafargue reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 72 minutes had been played when some careless play by R.C. Marseille's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Afonsinho Barros was slow to take the kick. During this time Tractorul Satulung -MM-'s players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Afonsinho Barros almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but R.C. Marseille's Didier Lafargue did a great save. Marseille made a substitution. Djibril Mourot replaced Mihail Toader. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Adrian Mutu in the 94th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Didier Lafargue saved R.C. Marseille from getting behind. For all the effort they put into the match, the R.C. Marseille players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Tractorul Satulung -MM-.
