Saruhan Şenbay's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dušan Ančic read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 3rd minute of play. In the 4th minute Sebastian Percival shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Batıhan Özbil saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Club Atlético de Newell's defense didn't have a chance, in the 6th minute, when Saruhan Şenbay scored to the left of an out of position Dušan Ančic, making the score, 1-0. Batıhan Özbil showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Spike Foley in the 14th minute of the match. 19 minutes into the match, Saruhan Şenbay had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dušan Ančic. Club Atlético de Newell's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Saruhan Şenbay was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Kaplan FK's Batıhan Özbil played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sebastian Percival in the 22nd minute of play. Dušan Ančic made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Saruhan Şenbay in the 26th minute of play. Pastor Eufemio scored 2-1 in the 28th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Batıhan Özbil, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 36th minute the ball was on its way in behind Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Dušan Ančic, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 39th minute, Spike Foley ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Batıhan Özbil was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. 45 minutes into the game, Spike Foley cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Batıhan Özbil was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Club Atlético de Newell were leading 2-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Kaplan FK's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club Atlético de Newell the free kick. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Batıhan Özbil showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Hugo Alexandersen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Batıhan Özbil made a huge save. In the 66th minute Sebastian Percival shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Batıhan Özbil saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 67 minutes into the match, Kaplan FK's goalkeeper Batıhan Özbil had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sebastian Percival. Saruhan Şenbay blasted a shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dušan Ančic having to make a save. If Spike Foley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Club Atlético de Newell made a substitution. Archie Gilroy replaced Devon Howson. Erkan Eraltay charged in rather forcefully in the 80th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Erkan Eraltay the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Kaplan FK getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Erkan Eraltay hit a great ball. Club Atlético de Newell made a substitution. Casey Harban replaced Vince Haywood. After 81 played minutes Kaplan FK got a freekick which was hit by Erkan Eraltay. Batıhan Özbil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sebastian Percival in the 82nd minute of play. Batıhan Özbil came out of the goal in the 84th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Atlético de Newell's Hugo Alexandersen. But to his dismay, Hugo Alexandersen quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-5. In the 87th minute Erkan Eraltay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dušan Ančic saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Batıhan Özbil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bobby Bear in the 93rd minute of play. Club Atlético de Newell played a much better game than Kaplan FK and deserved their victory. The Kaplan FK players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
