Águilas Poblanas's Alexandros Ismael played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bruno Steiner in the 12th minute of play. When Águilas Poblanas's Fabricio Frasco in the 13th minute got a chance for a shot 13th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 20 minutes into the match, Olympique Fribourg's goal looked a bit too open when Fabricio Frasco came free, but Tristan Arioli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 21st minute, Gene Emmenegger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Olympique Fribourg's zone, Fabricio Frasco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tristan Arioli came out of the goal and Fabricio Frasco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabricio Frasco in the 24th minute of play forced Olympique Fribourg's goalkeeper Tristan Arioli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The corner ended in Kimmo Saastamoinen almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Olympique Fribourg's Tristan Arioli did a great save. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Fabricio Frasco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Águilas Poblanas's supporters rose to their feet, but Fabricio Frasco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tristan Arioli breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mich Batshuayi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Alexandros Ismael tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 33rd minute, Ben Zehnder hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 33 played minutes, Águilas Poblanas's Kimmo Saastamoinen shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tristan Arioli came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Águilas Poblanas reached it. Alexandros Ismael made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Mich Batshuayi sent off a good shot on target. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fabricio Frasco was the one to do the kick off. Águilas Poblanas's Kimmo Saastamoinen managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Gene Emmenegger in the 51 minute of the game. With a little luck, Olympique Fribourg's Tristan Arioli got control of the ball when Fabricio Frasco tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match had gone on for 53 minutes, Fabricio Frasco took a quick shot and it went in 0-1 without a chance for Tristan Arioli to make any attempt to save it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabricio Frasco in the 61st minute of play forced Olympique Fribourg's goalkeeper Tristan Arioli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Águilas Poblanas's Virgilio Txindoki was substituted for Carlo Ciolli. Águilas Poblanas's Eusebio Beltran was substituted for Fabricio Frasco. In the 71st minute Roy Ekman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tristan Arioli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Roy Ekman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 76 minutes, Roy Ekman made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. Olympique Fribourg's Tristan Arioli tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Olympique Fribourg's Gene Emmenegger got a free kick in the 80th minute. Tristan Arioli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Roy Ekman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Águilas Poblanas's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Kimmo Saastamoinen in the 83rd minute. The corner led Águilas Poblanas's Kimmo Saastamoinen to fire away a dangerous shot which Tristan Arioli despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Alexandros Ismael showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Matt Metzger in the 86th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Virgilio Txindoki managed to get in a good position for a shot. Águilas Poblanas's supporters rose to their feet, but Virgilio Txindoki was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tristan Arioli breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Roy Ekman struck a weak shot in the 90th minute. Tristan Arioli didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Águilas Poblanas. When Virgilio Txindoki came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Águilas Poblanas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Virgilio Txindoki couldn't finish the play. If Roy Ekman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 96th minute Roy Ekman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tristan Arioli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
