The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Joélson de Azevedo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anestis Kotsopoulos in the 3rd minute of the match. In the 5th match minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kryspin Banach to maneuver through the defense. 8 minutes into the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen's goal looked a bit too open when 何沙铮 came free, but Uwe Ziege reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 9 minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was 何沙铮 who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Emiliano Santilli got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Uwe Ziege quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 16th minute of the match, 何沙铮 tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Uwe Ziege saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 21st minute Genio della Lampada FC were awarded a corner. 何沙铮 went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that 何沙铮 got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Uwe Ziege quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Anestis Kotsopoulos scored 1-1 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Joélson de Azevedo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 25th minute the ball was on its way in behind Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Uwe Ziege, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Joélson de Azevedo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Octavian Basten in the 28th minute of play. Uwe Ziege was out of position in the 29 minute of play, and 何沙铮 capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. 何沙铮 really showed his touch with that goal: 2-1. Uwe Ziege stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristinel Mustățea's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. When the match clock showed 32 minutes, the score became 3-1 when Cristinel Mustățea sped through Rot-Weiss-Essen's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Uwe Ziege. Cristinel Mustățea let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 35th minute shot 4-1 at rihgt post. Erkan Fostiropoulos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Octavian Basten in the 40th minute of play forced Genio della Lampada FC's goalkeeper Joélson de Azevedo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Genio della Lampada FC's Edmundo Cabada got a free kick in the 41st minute. In the 42nd match minute, Genio della Lampada FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Martin Zammit to maneuver through the defense. Dennis De Rossi hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 4-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Octavian Basten stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Cristinel Mustățea recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 52nd minute, Maximilian Henning hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joélson de Azevedo made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Octavian Basten sent off a good shot on target. When the match clock showed 59 minutes, the score became 6-1 when Cristinel Mustățea sped through Rot-Weiss-Essen's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Uwe Ziege. After 68 minutes, 何沙铮 made it 7-1 with a short kick to the right side. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When Cristinel Mustățea came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Genio della Lampada FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristinel Mustățea couldn't finish the play. Genio della Lampada FC's Joélson de Azevedo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Octavian Basten in the 74th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling 何沙铮 in the 80th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Uwe Ziege prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 83rd minute 何沙铮 shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uwe Ziege saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Joélson de Azevedo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mesut Özil in the 85th minute of the match. In the 87th minute the ball was on its way in behind Genio della Lampada FC's goalkeeper Joélson de Azevedo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 89th minute Cristinel Mustățea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Uwe Ziege saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 91st minute of the match, Octavian Basten tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Joélson de Azevedo saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Rot-Weiss-Essen's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Maximilian Henning in the 93rd minute. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Maximilian Henning was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Joélson de Azevedo in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. If Dario De Marco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
