The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 2 minutes into the game, Mpenza Tshabalala was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. The crowd rose to their feet as Radomir Juszkowski kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Mthunzi Madima. That made the score 1-0 in the 4 minute of play. Radomir Juszkowski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mthunzi Madima having to interfere. A collision led to Zawisza Bydgoszcz getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Dariusz Cichocki hit a great ball. In the 24th match minute, Liverpool was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jakob Modise to maneuver through the defense. Konstanty Kisiel took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 25th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mthunzi Madima. Liverpool's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Radomir Juszkowski did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 2-0 to the left of a surprised Mthunzi Madima 27 minutes into the match. Zawisza Bydgoszcz's Tomasz Jurgiel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Promise Wanani in the 30th minute of play. 31 minutes into the match, Zawisza Bydgoszcz's goal looked a bit too open when Bongi Stoltz came free, but Tomasz Jurgiel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Promise Wanani might have been able to make a better finish in the 33rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tomasz Jurgiel. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Promise Wanani ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bongi Stoltz in the 33rd minute of play forced Zawisza Bydgoszcz's goalkeeper Tomasz Jurgiel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Radomir Juszkowski sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pankracy Serwach in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mthunzi Madima saved Liverpool from getting behind. After 41 played minutes Liverpool got a freekick which was hit by Eric Mathibe. Radomir Juszkowski could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Mthunzi Madima made a huge save. When Boleslaw Dresik fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Zawisza Bydgoszcz's protests and gave Boleslaw Dresik a yellow card for diving instead. Liverpool's Mthunzi Madima proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save Liverpool from getting a goal against them. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Promise Wanani stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pankracy Serwach sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Pankracy Serwach managed to get in a good position for a shot. Zawisza Bydgoszcz's supporters rose to their feet, but Pankracy Serwach was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mthunzi Madima breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Zawisza Bydgoszcz's Artur Kaminski got a free kick in the 64th minute. After 65 minutes of play, Liverpool's Promise Wanani made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Tomasz Jurgiel was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the match had gone on for 69 minutes, Radomir Juszkowski put it in 3-1 from a short distance just to the right of Mthunzi Madima. Mthunzi Madima made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Radomir Juszkowski in the 73rd minute of play. Mthunzi Madima took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pankracy Serwach, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mthunzi Madima showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pankracy Serwach, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Boleslaw Dresik kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. In the 83rd minute, Zawisza Bydgoszcz's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Promise Wanani fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Promise Wanani could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Tomasz Jurgiel made a huge save. If Radomir Juszkowski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 90 minutes, Eric Mathibe mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Liverpool and the Zawisza Bydgoszcz players grew even worse after the yellow card. Radomir Juszkowski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mthunzi Madima having to interfere. In the 95th minute the ball was on its way in behind Zawisza Bydgoszcz's goalkeeper Tomasz Jurgiel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Liverpool's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jakob Modise in the 97th minute.
