Dé Chaves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Trần Hong having to interfere. 16 minutes into the game, Chung Chuong cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Gerson Bittencourt was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Viet in the 18th minute of play forced Correntezas EC's goalkeeper Gerson Bittencourt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dương Huỳnh couldn't finish the play. If Dương Huỳnh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 29th match minute, Correntezas EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Baltazar Arósio to maneuver through the defense. 32 minutes into the game, Correntezas EC's Diego Madureira nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Trần Hong made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Chi Minh City were awarded a corner in the 36th minute after Correntezas EC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Đặng Thuyet took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Chung Chuong got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Gerson Bittencourt quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When Nguyễn Viet came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Chi Minh City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Viet couldn't finish the play. Trần Hong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Virgílio Pitta in the 39th minute. Nguyễn Viet recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nguyễn Viet might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gerson Bittencourt. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nguyễn Viet ran back to his position shaking his head. Correntezas EC's Gerson Bittencourt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chung Chuong in the 46th minute of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nguyễn Viet made a kick off. Nguyễn Viet sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 58th minute Dé Chaves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Trần Hong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Correntezas EC's Dé Chaves got a free kick in the 61st minute. Gerson Bittencourt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Huỳnh Anh Hung, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 67th minute, Aloísio da Cunha made a precise shot to the right of Trần Hong. Chi Minh City's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2. 70 minutes into the match, Nguyễn Viet notched a goal, 3-3, to the right of Correntezas EC's Gerson Bittencourt. Gerson Bittencourt was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 73 minutes into the game, one of Correntezas EC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 78 minutes into the match, Correntezas EC's goalkeeper Gerson Bittencourt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Chung Chuong. Gerson Bittencourt made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Chung Chuong sent off a good shot on target. In the 80thth minute of the game Nguyễn Viet who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Correntezas EC's Gerson Bittencourt was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Correntezas EC's Gerson Bittencourt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dương Huỳnh in the 81st minute of play. Baltazar Arósio made in the 86th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Chi Minh City's Nguyễn Phuoc. In the 87th minute, Chi Minh City's Nguyễn Phuoc ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Gerson Bittencourt. Gerson Bittencourt yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-4. After 89 played minutes Chi Minh City got a freekick which was hit by Đinh Phu. Gerson Bittencourt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Chung Chuong in the 93rd minute of the match. Silas Tavares hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match.

Chi Minh City played a much better game than Correntezas EC and deserved their victory. The Correntezas EC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
