With an all-out effort, Formentera's Carlos Dracena threw himself towards the right post 4 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Paulo Enmanuel, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Formentera were awarded a corner in the 5th minute after Guarani MZC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Justino Hondo took the corner. The audience was convinced that Paulo Enmanuel's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Carlos Dracena was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. In the 17th minute, Reinaldo Cunha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Formentera booed when Guarani MZC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cláudio Veiga didn't get a good kick on the ball. Guarani MZC's Carlos Dracena proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Guarani MZC from getting a goal against them. 27 minutes into the game, Cláudio Veiga threw the ball into play from the sideline. Formentera's Hernan Chus quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Paulo Enmanuel could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 28th minute of the match, but Carlos Dracena made a huge save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Geovanni Gomes in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Froilan Jacob prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 37 minutes into the match, Formentera's goal looked a bit too open when Geovanni Gomes came free, but Froilan Jacob reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Froilan Jacob took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kléber Paulista, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 39th minute, Kléber Paulista left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Guarani MZC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Paulo Enmanuel could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Carlos Dracena made a huge save. Guarani MZC's Carlos Dracena proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save Guarani MZC from getting a goal against them. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Geovanni Gomes made the kick off in the second half. The Guarani MZC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Carlos Dracena should have stopped the shot. After 83 played minutes Guarani MZC got a freekick which was hit by Geovanni Gomes. After a rather tough play, Guarani MZC's Cláudio Veiga got a free kick in the 84th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paulo Enmanuel in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Carlos Dracena saved Guarani MZC from getting behind. Paulo Enmanuel blasted a shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Carlos Dracena having to make a save. Fausto Ronconi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Dracena having to interfere.
