After 5 minutes, Laércio de Andrade made it 1-0 with a short kick to the right side. Foot Ball Club di Roma's Alvaro Pardini tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Foot Ball Club di Roma made a substitution. Gianluca Mancini replaced Aldo Pesce. Alvaro Pardini made an important save on a dangerous shot by Laércio de Andrade in the 17th minute. After 22 played minutes Internacional got a freekick which was hit by Laércio de Andrade. In the 25th minute Biagio Scoca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geronimo Rulli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 26th match minute, Internacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Laércio de Andrade to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armando Ceresoli in the 31st minute of play forced Internacional's goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Internacional's goalie and right to Niccolo Zaniolo. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Internacional's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. If Laércio de Andrade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Alvaro Pardini made an important save on a dangerous shot by Laércio de Andrade in the 34th minute. 38 minutes into the match, Foot Ball Club di Roma's goal looked a bit too open when Laércio de Andrade came free, but Alvaro Pardini reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Internacional's Geronimo Rulli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Niccolo Zaniolo in the 39th minute of play. Rafael Abarca might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alvaro Pardini. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rafael Abarca ran back to his position shaking his head. Geronimo Rulli showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Biagio Scoca, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. In the 46th minute, Laércio de Andrade got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Laércio de Andrade to make the kick off. A collision led to Internacional getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Ege Deniz hit a great ball. Geronimo Rulli made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Armando Ceresoli in the 58th minute of play. 59 minutes into the match, Laércio de Andrade had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Alvaro Pardini. Foot Ball Club di Roma's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Laércio de Andrade was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. 62 minutes into the game, Internacional's Laércio de Andrade nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alvaro Pardini made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. Geronimo Rulli came out of the goal in the 68th minute to try and stop a shot by Foot Ball Club di Roma's Armando Ceresoli. But to his dismay, Armando Ceresoli quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. After a rather tough play, Foot Ball Club di Roma's Alessandro Anastasi got a free kick in the 75th minute. Alvaro Pardini showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Laércio de Andrade in the 76th minute of the match. 77 minutes into the match, Laércio de Andrade notched a goal, 5-1, to the right of Foot Ball Club di Roma's Alvaro Pardini. Alvaro Pardini was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Alvaro Pardini stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Laércio de Andrade's shot from short distance in the 82nd minute. In the 83rd minute Internacional were awarded a corner. Michael Laudrup went to the cornerflag to take it. Rafael Abarca made a great header on Internacional's corner, it was just that Foot Ball Club di Roma's Alvaro Pardini managed to reach the ball for a save. Internacional's Geronimo Rulli proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save Internacional from getting a goal against them. In the 91st minute, Ege Deniz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 94 minutes into the match, Foot Ball Club di Roma's Biagio Scoca sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Geronimo Rulli narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The Internacional support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
