Javier Roderigo came out of the goal and Theofilos Touboulis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 30 minutes, Fabio Atarratze mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Deportivo Messina and the Olympiacos FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Theofilos Touboulis struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Javier Roderigo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Olympiacos FC. Olympiacos FC's Theofilos Touboulis got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Paolo Mantzio kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. 41 minutes into the match, Theofilos Touboulis notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Deportivo Messina's Javier Roderigo. The throw-in from Nikiforos Valaoras in the 74th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Deportivo Messina's Jacobo Cortez. A beautiful save bye Deportivo Messina's goalie prevented a goal. The Olympiacos FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Olympiacos FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
