The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by João Carlos Britto during the 13th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Júlio Schmidt acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 15th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Fernandinho Paes. 17 minutes into the match, S.E. Pindorama Eagles's goalkeeper Júlio Schmidt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Renatinho Braga. The supporters of Desportiva Paulo Afonso booed when S.E. Pindorama Eagles was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedrinho Porto didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 25 played minutes Desportiva Paulo Afonso got a freekick which was hit by Hélder Trigo. S.E. Pindorama Eagles's Júlio Schmidt proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save S.E. Pindorama Eagles from getting a goal against them. The corner led to Desportiva Paulo Afonso's Amílton Travassos getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 36th minute Francisco Garcia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Júlio Schmidt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 37 minutes S.E. Pindorama Eagles's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Fernandinho Paes who took care of the corner kick. The corner led to Desportiva Paulo Afonso's Amílton Travassos getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 47th minute, Pedrinho Porto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 48th minute, Francisco Garcia managed to get in a good position for a shot. Desportiva Paulo Afonso's supporters rose to their feet, but Francisco Garcia was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Júlio Schmidt breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francisco Garcia stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pindorama Eagles's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Fernandinho Paes took the corner. Júlio Schmidt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francisco Garcia in the 74th minute of the match. 80 minutes into the match, Desportiva Paulo Afonso's goal looked a bit too open when José Carlos Freire came free, but Olavo Vasconcelos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 84 played minutes S.E. Pindorama Eagles got a freekick which was hit by Pedrinho Porto. After 92 minutes of play S.E. Pindorama Eagles's Pedrinho Porto was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. A collision led to S.E. Pindorama Eagles getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Pedrinho Porto hit a great ball. Júlio Schmidt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fernandinho Paes in the 94th minute of play. When Telmo de Salles fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored S.E. Pindorama Eagles's protests and gave Telmo de Salles a yellow card for diving instead. S.E. Pindorama Eagles succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Desportiva Paulo Afonso had controlled the match.
