The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Sagene IF defense, Greg Santoro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Olav Westad. The Sagene IF fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Olav Westad should have stopped the shot. 16 minutes into the match, Sagene IF's goal looked a bit too open when Dominique Virapin came free, but Olav Westad reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yann Scott in the 17th minute of play forced Sagene IF's goalkeeper Olav Westad to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute Dominique Virapin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olav Westad saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. They were losing 0-1.

A collision led to La Pointe Courte getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Raymond Lherbier hit a great ball. In the 56th match minute, La Pointe Courte was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dominique Virapin to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of La Pointe Courte booed when Sagene IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thomas Jansen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Yann Scott recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sagene IF's Olav Westad proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 68th minute of the match, managed to save Sagene IF from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Yann Scott got free with Olav Westad in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sabri Fouquet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vetle Bårdsen in the 71st minute of play. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patxi Seux couldn't finish the play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. La Pointe Courte had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
