After a defensive mix-up in Carpathians's zone, Fausto Argider stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Basarab Pârcălab came out of the goal and Fausto Argider tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Academia FC getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Delmiro Quico hit a great ball. In the 9th minute, Mario Rivero fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bruno Gotti in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Angel Etxeberri prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 13 minutes into the game, Franco Barresi was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Carpathians's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Academia FC the free kick. The supporters of Academia FC booed when Carpathians was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Franco Barresi didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Mario Rivero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Carpathians's Bruno Gotti in the 22nd minute got a chance for a shot 22nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Academia FC's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Constantin Cârstea in the 27th minute of play forced Academia FC's goalkeeper Angel Etxeberri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Dudu Georgescu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Angel Etxeberri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bruno Gotti in the 36th minute of play. When Mario Rivero came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Academia FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mario Rivero couldn't finish the play. Angel Etxeberri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Constantin Cârstea, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute.

Dorin Petrică fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Angel Etxeberri having to interfere. In the 55th minute, Constantin Cârstea ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Angel Etxeberri was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Angel Etxeberri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dorin Petrică in the 58th minute of play. After 59 minutes Academia FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Bruno Gotti who took care of the corner kick. In the 60th match minute, Carpathians was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dudu Georgescu to maneuver through the defense. The free kick resulted in a very good chance to score when Dudu Georgescu kicked a really tricky shot on goal. Angel Etxeberri never had to step in, however, because the ball went just left of the goal. Dorin Petrică received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Angel Etxeberri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Academia FC's Angel Etxeberri got control of the ball when Constantin Cârstea tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dorin Petrică in the 67th minute of play forced Academia FC's goalkeeper Angel Etxeberri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alin Tătăruşanu hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. 69 minutes into the game, Academia FC's Mario Rivero nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Basarab Pârcălab made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Basarab Pârcălab made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fausto Argider in the 73rd minute of play. Dudu Georgescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Angel Etxeberri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Angel Etxeberri was a little too slow when Dorin Petrică got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 82nd minute. The score was now 1-3. Bruno Gottis short, quick shot in the 85thth minute got Angel Etxeberri to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Academia FC's Angel Etxeberri proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Academia FC from getting a goal against them. Angel Etxeberri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Constantin Cârstea, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alin Tătăruşanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Angel Etxeberri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Maximo Gau fell near the penalty area in the 93rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Academia FC's protests and gave Maximo Gau a yellow card for diving instead. In the 93rd minute, Maximo Gau hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 95 minutes into the match, Alin Tătăruşanu sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Angel Etxeberri threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for Alin Tătăruşanu this time. When the match had gone on for 96 minutes, Bruno Gotti put it in 1-4 from a short distance just to the right of Angel Etxeberri. Carpathians's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
